The receiver-dryer removes moisture and contaminants from refrigerant before it reaches the expansion valve and evaporator. Moisture in the A/C system causes corrosion, ice blockages, and acid formation that destroys the compressor from the inside. The dryer should be replaced every time the system is opened for service — it is an inexpensive part that protects the entire A/C system.
At True Truck Parts, we carry OEM-spec receiver-dryers for Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Volvo, Mack, International, and Western Star. Serving fleets in Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Milton, Oakville, Burlington, and across the GTA. Always replace the dryer when replacing the compressor or condenser.
The receiver-dryer should be replaced every time the A/C system is opened to atmosphere — compressor replacement, condenser replacement, line repair, or refrigerant evacuation. The desiccant inside saturates with moisture once exposed to air and cannot be reused. Skipping this step is the most common cause of premature compressor failure after a repair.
A saturated desiccant bag can break apart and send debris through the system, clogging the expansion valve and damaging the compressor. Moisture left in the system forms acids that corrode internal components over time. Always replace the dryer when servicing the A/C system — it is the cheapest insurance you can buy.
They are similar but positioned differently. The receiver-dryer is used in systems with a thermal expansion valve (TXV) and is mounted between the condenser and evaporator on the high-pressure side. An accumulator is used in systems with an orifice tube and is mounted on the low-pressure side after the evaporator. We carry both styles depending on your truck's system configuration.
